Chung Yuan Christian University’s Department of Electrical Engineering held its “2026 North America Alumni Reunion” on April 4 in Silicon Valley, bringing together alumni from across North America to reconnect and exchange experiences.
During the event, alumni shared their professional journeys in technology, engineering, business, and academia, while reflecting on their years at CYCU. Department Chair Lai Yu-Kun and Distinguished Professor Lin Kang-Ping thanked alumni for their continued support, and CYCU Global Alumni Association President Fang Chih-Chin encouraged alumni worldwide to continue strengthening connections and supporting the university’s future development.

Department Chair Lai Yu-Kun stated that, in response to declining birth rates, changes in higher education, and the rapid rise of AI technologies, the Department of Electrical Engineering is actively upgrading its teaching and research environment. Future plans include establishing a “one student, one workstation” hands-on laboratory and expanding international internship and exchange opportunities, enabling students to connect with industry and the global stage during their studies.
He also noted that the department has long emphasized hands-on, practice-oriented education. Since 2008, it has established the “Integrated Circuit Design Co-Laboratory,” and in recent years has further developed the “Energy Technology Demonstration and R&D Field,” the “Robotics and Control Applications Laboratory,” and the “NVIDIA AI Cloud Platform.” These facilities integrate AI, smart grid technologies, energy systems, and high-performance computing, providing students with strong foundations for practical projects and research training.

During the reunion, the Department of Electrical Engineering also shared its mid-term development plans for upgrading laboratory facilities and cultivating international talent. Future initiatives include inviting alumni from Taiwan and the United States to share first-hand industry experience during visits to Taiwan, as well as expanding overseas internship and exchange opportunities for students. The department also plans to expand its Design House laboratory space and integrate shared laboratory resources with the university’s NVIDIA high-performance computing cluster to strengthen students’ practical, testing, and system integration capabilities.
Distinguished Professor Lin Kang-Ping noted that CYCU upholds the belief that “love is the guiding force of education,” emphasizing both personal example and mentorship in fostering mutual growth between teachers and students. He expressed hope that CYCU EE alumni would continue giving back to the department and helping younger generations gain more opportunities to connect with the world. Through collaboration among alumni, industry, and the university, CYCU Electrical Engineering aims to continue cultivating globally competitive engineering talent with lasting impact on the international technology stage.

Several attendees at the reunion were among the first undergraduate students taught by Distinguished Professor Lin Kang-Ping after he joined CYCU. Alumni recalled Professor Lin’s strong emphasis on logical thinking and analytical skills, as well as his clear and rigorous teaching in linear algebra and engineering mathematics—foundations they later realized were invaluable in engineering, technology, and management careers.
The reunion also highlighted the global achievements of CYCU EE alumni. Many alumni from the Class of 1980 and 1982 currently hold senior positions at leading Silicon Valley technology companies, contributing to fields such as semiconductors, information technology, system design, and corporate management.
During the event, alumni expressed strong support for the department’s recent developments and future plans, describing CYCU EE as a lifelong source of connection and belonging. The gathering concluded with commemorative gifts presented by Department Chair Lai Yu-Kun in appreciation of the alumni’s long-term support and contributions to the department.

The Department of Electrical Engineering at Chung Yuan Christian University stated that it will continue strengthening alumni connections while integrating industry resources and global networks, enabling CYCU EE alumni to shine on the international technology stage and carry forward the spirit of holistic education in engineering talent cultivation.
