As Chung Yuan Christian University prepares to celebrate its 71st anniversary, the College of Design continues to strengthen community bonds through a variety of campus activities. Following its revival in the 2024 academic year as part of the university’s anniversary celebrations, the faculty basketball tournament has now entered its third year. This year also marked the debut of the Dean’s Cup 3-on-3 Basketball Championship for students. Held on May 20 and May 27, 2026, at the university gymnasium, the events attracted enthusiastic participation from both faculty members and students. Through friendly competition, the tournaments fostered cross-departmental interaction, strengthened faculty-student connections, and highlighted the College of Design’s spirit of teamwork, vitality, and healthy campus engagement.

The faculty division featured 33 participants forming three teams, bringing the total number of participants across the tournament’s three-year history to 113. The competition included a free-throw challenge and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, with teams composed of faculty members and administrative staff from different departments and the college office. After a series of closely contested matches, the Department of Landscape Architecture claimed championships in both events, demonstrating outstanding teamwork and consistency. Beyond the competition itself, the tournament provided an opportunity for faculty and staff to step away from their daily responsibilities, stay active, strengthen interpersonal connections, and foster a greater sense of camaraderie across the college.

The inaugural Dean’s Cup 3-on-3 Basketball Championship was divided into men’s and women’s divisions, attracting enthusiastic participation from students in the Department of Architecture, Department of Interior Design, Department of Landscape Architecture, and the Oxford Brookes University–CYCU Dual Degree Program in Architecture and Urban Design. A total of nine teams and 38 students took part in the competition. Throughout the tournament, participants demonstrated determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship on the court while building friendships across departments, reflecting the collaborative spirit and energetic campus culture of the College of Design.

Competition in the men’s division was particularly intense. The championship was ultimately claimed by “Bo-Yan Wants to Win 3000” from the Department of Interior Design, while “Chang Shao-Chun and His Slim Friends” from the Department of Architecture finished as runners-up. Third place went to “Pin-Jui Is So Handsome.”
In the women’s division, teams from the Department of Landscape Architecture secured both the championship and runner-up titles. “You’re Always Right” took first place, while “Just Here to Participate” earned second place, showcasing the department’s strong team spirit and competitive performance throughout the tournament.

Chao Chia-Lin, Dean of the College of Design, said that the basketball tournaments were created to provide opportunities for faculty members and students to connect beyond the classroom and workplace through a shared passion for sports. To commemorate the event, the college specially designed custom medals to encourage participants to give their best on the court.
According to Chao, the medals symbolize more than competitive achievement; they represent the time, dedication, teamwork, and perseverance invested throughout the tournament. They also serve as lasting reminders of campus memories and shared accomplishments. He further encouraged participants to prioritize safety and take appropriate measures to prevent sports injuries, ensuring that they can enjoy the excitement of competition while maintaining their health and well-being.

Looking ahead, the College of Design will continue to promote sports competitions and a wide range of engagement activities that encourage faculty members and students to develop healthy lifestyles and regular exercise habits. Through these initiatives, the college aims to strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration, foster meaningful connections within the academic community, and cultivate a campus environment that values professional development, personal well-being, and teamwork.
