CYCU Honors 13 Companies at Inaugural CESG Sustainability Awards, Advancing Corporate Sustainability with Taoyuan City Government.

Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) hosted the “CYCU Sustainability Carnival – Taoyuan SMEs CESG GO! Results Sharing Forum” on October 28 at the Tsung Cho-Chang Memorial Hall. With support from the Taoyuan City Government’s Department of Economic Development, CYCU’s Net Zero Transformation and Sustainability Center presented the preliminary results of its “CYCU-CESG for SME” ESG assessment framework and held the inaugural CYCU CESG Sustainability Awards, recognizing 13 companies for their achievements in sustainable business practices. Through ESG assessments, industry experience sharing, and government–academia–industry collaboration, the initiative aims to provide practical pathways for local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to advance their sustainability transformation.

CYCU Chairman Kwang-Cheng Chang emphasized that sustainability is closely aligned with the University’s 71-year commitment to holistic education. He noted that universities must not only cultivate talent but also translate academic research into meaningful contributions to society. By leveraging interdisciplinary research to develop an ESG assessment framework tailored to SMEs, CYCU demonstrates its commitment to social responsibility. Chairman Chang also expressed appreciation for the Taoyuan City Government’s support and highlighted the inaugural CESG Sustainability Awards as an opportunity to recognize corporate achievements, encourage continuous improvement, and strengthen collaboration among government, academia, and industry to promote local sustainable development.

Yen-Wei Keng, Deputy Director-General of Taoyuan City Government’s Department of Economic Development and a CYCU alumnus, commended his alma mater for its ESG survey, which identified key sustainability challenges and improvement needs among local businesses. He emphasized the vital role of SMEs in Taoyuan’s economy and expressed hope for stronger collaboration between the City Government and CYCU. By applying the findings to industry support programs and policy planning, both parties aim to help SMEs enhance their sustainability practices, resilience, and competitiveness.

CYCU’s Net Zero Transformation and Sustainability Center introduced the “CYCU-CESG for SME” ESG assessment framework, designed specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The framework features 60 streamlined questions across four key dimensions—sustainability commitment, environmental responsibility, social equity, and corporate governance—with 16 sub-dimensions and a 91.7% alignment rate with international GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards. Through a three-stage approach of assessment, guidance, and disclosure, it aims to help SMEs identify improvement opportunities and take practical steps toward sustainability.

Center Director Wen-Chiung Chou emphasized the principle of “Businesses identify challenges, CYCU provides solutions, and the government offers support,” highlighting the University’s commitment to making sustainability assessment tools practical and accessible for SMEs.

The inaugural CYCU CESG Sustainability Awards recognized 13 companies across five categories:

  • Sustainability Excellence Award: Jieteng Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. and Xinye Intelligent Automation Industry Co., Ltd.
  • Forward-Looking Commitment Award: Wanba Education (Thinking Flying Education Co., Ltd.) and Yuezi Green Energy Electric Vehicles Co., Ltd.

The event also highlighted CYCU’s contributions to local sustainability through interdisciplinary research and industry collaboration. Award-winning companies, including Xinye Intelligent Automation and Riyi Smart Energy, shared their sustainability experiences, while CYCU spin-off company Qushi International Management Consulting offered practical insights into SMEs’ sustainability transformation.
