Fang Jun-Neng, an alumnus of the Department of International Trade and the Ph.D. program in Business at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), has been awarded the Ministry of Education’s 4th “Global Outstanding Overseas Taiwan Alumni Award,” recognizing his significant contributions to Taiwan and the international community. This prestigious award has been conferred biennially since 2018, and this year, 11 recipients were honored. Fang, who graduated from CYCU, has journeyed from being a young Malaysian with dreams to becoming a leader in the international industry, embodying the university’s core values of “Faith, Hope, and Love” through his actions, making this recognition well-deserved.
The Ministry of Education’s 2024 4th “Global Outstanding Overseas Taiwan Alumni Award” ceremony was recently held at the Chang Jung-fa Foundation, with Deputy Minister of Education Chang Liao Wan-chien presenting the awards. The recipients, hailing from various countries, have made significant contributions in fields such as politics, economics, and education. Among them, Malaysian recipient Fang Jun-Neng, founder of IQS Wood Sdn Bhd, has served as President of the CYCU Global Alumni Association and President of the Malaysia Global Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Association. His business spans Europe, Australia, and Asia, promoting environmental sustainability through his company’s innovations and developments in wooden construction materials.
For many years, Fang Jun-Neng has been committed to promoting educational exchange and industry-academia cooperation between Taiwan and Malaysia, earning widespread recognition. He shared that his connection with Taiwan began during his studies at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU). As a Malaysian student, he chose to study in Taiwan, where he was influenced by CYCU’s holistic education philosophy, advancing not only in academics but also learning the spirit of perseverance and pursuing dreams. He said, “After my wife and I completed our studies and returned to Malaysia, we always wanted to contribute meaningfully to both Taiwan and Malaysia, eventually deciding to help more Malaysian youth study in Taiwan to achieve this goal.”
To realize this belief, Fang and his wife dedicated themselves to Taiwan-Malaysia education and alumni services. They have actively supported Malaysian students in pursuing higher education, assisting many in studying in Taiwan, and have continued to follow the academic and career development of overseas students. Fang has worked to build a platform for business collaboration between Taiwan and Malaysia and has promoted internship and job opportunities with Taiwanese and Malaysian companies to enhance industry-academia and economic exchanges between the two regions. He hopes to build a bridge for educational, cultural, and industry-academia cooperation between Taiwan and Malaysia, providing more opportunities for overseas students and deepening the scope of these exchanges.
Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) President Li Ying-Ming stated that alumnus Fang Jun-Neng not only helped establish the CYCU Alumni Association in Malaysia but also served as President of the CYCU Global Alumni Association, continuously integrating alumni resources and promoting international industry-academia cooperation. He has been a significant supporter of the university’s development. Influenced by CYCU’s “holistic education,” Fang has achieved great success in his career while upholding the core values of “Faith, Hope, and Love,” actively engaging in public welfare and educational exchange, becoming a model for overseas Taiwan alumni. Fang’s recognition with the Ministry of Education’s “Global Outstanding Overseas Taiwan Alumni Award” is a testament to CYCU’s motto, “Learning and Doing with Faith,” and the university is proud of his achievement.
